Style Story — SafSafu

I’ve admired Safoura Seghatoleslami as a designer for quite some time now. As someone who shops enthusiastically for an original eye-catcher, her jewelry is right up my alley. When I finally met Safoura in person, I wasn’t surprised at all to find that her personal style was perfectly aligned with her designs—chic, elegant, and anti-conformist.

What is your ideal uniform?

I don’t really like uniforms, as I believe they limit self-expression.

Who or what influences your style?

I really like non-conventional mix of things. I get super inspired by bad taste, kitsch stuff, the 80s, Iranian folk costumes, and the women of my big family, to mention a few.

You have such a clear vision as a designer. What inspires you, and how did you develop your eye?

So many things inspire me: art, movies, traveling. I grew up in a family full of artists and architect, and from an early I was surrounded by art and beautiful objects. I used to go to antique shops and flea markets with my mother and aunts, and I believe that’s how I developed my eye.

Does your work as a designer influence your personal style, or vice versa? What are their similarities and differences?

After working for around 10 years for other brands, I felt the need to create something that I could really express myself with, so I launched SAFSAFU as my most personal project. My work is 100% my personal style.

What is most important to you: comfort, beauty, or innovation?

In this order: beauty, innovation, comfort.

What are you excited about in fashion right now?

I don’t really follow the trends! What I really like is that nowadays you can find so many new, small independent brands with unique styles.

How has living in Paris influenced your style?

Wearing black, something that would happen in very rare occasions before living in Paris.
